Come the festive season, there is nothing better than a spiced warming glass of Mulled wine. The smell of sweet cinnamon travelling to your nostrils with the rich taste of red berry flavour, complementing that ever so tasty freshly baked mince pie. For many of us, this is the medicine of Christmas and making it from scratch is the prime festive tradition, bringing all loved ones together.
Believed to have originated in Rome, Mulled wine has become the favourite festive drink for families across the UK. Mixing mulled spices with fine tasting wine, Delia’s home recipe is a personal favourite of mine: a rich orange and ginger flavoured wine with an aroma of cinnamon. Heat a couple of bottles of wine with 6 tbsp honey, an orange studded with cloves, a couple slices of orange and lemon, a pinch of ground ginger and a cinnamon stick, allowing it to simmer for 20 minutes before serving.
